Sadly we had a few empty seats... oh well, it meant more wine for the dinner later! I thought that some of these wines, particularly the Bennet Lane and Rodney Strong selections, were quite bit better with food (and an extra few hours breathing) whereas others like the Simis, were still suffering. In the end, the Endeavor was really spectacular with flank steak.

I like how John now qualifies as a "Wine Professional – Production" Congrats!

Not at all surprised about the Simi, I think that they have really gone downhill over the last couple of years. Nice notes and a good write up on the Rodney Strong.

@RBoulanger ... well, professional might be a bit of a misnomer but I do work at a winery but sometimes I wonder if I am a professional at it. :-) Great meeting you. Make sure to let me know when you are out this way.

"Wine Professional - Production" makes it sounds like you are some flying winemaker!

I can't wait to check out Loxton...

Well he was flying!

Gotta give the guy his due, ya know he ain't there for the money!

It was a very good tasting and I have to agree with Rodolphe regarding the wines showing better with dinner.

As far as Simi goes, bleh! It's ok, obviously there are other wines to buy.

Michale,
I've never had the Patzimaro nor the Monito Ledge but I will look out for them.

I love these tastings tough. Really so interesting to hear the comments and watch the surprises with each unveil. The Pedroncelli and Endeavor were about as different as you could get but vied for my wines of the night, and as a lapsed California Cabernet drinker I must say I was pleasantly surprised!

That's a great question Leo. I just want people to know that we don't have to agree all the time. Another point is that the "best" wine may not be the most popular which is an important distinction and worth worth learning and relearning all the time.

On the flip side if there is real agreement with these rankings, especially at the top and the bottom, then you can be sure that those wines are worth finding or avoiding depending on their placement.

Damn, I should've shoved this in a calendar and come up. I certainly wasn't doing anything preferable Sunday evening (discovering and getting rid of an opossum in my basement: less preferable than tasting wines).

I'll have to pass this link along to some RazorFish alums. They'll be amused to see a conference room in their old office used that way (although the floor configuration was probably different back then).

Nice Cabernet Sauvignon tasting. I have to agree with how high you placed Pedroncelli and Dry Creek Vineyards- great value picks. I believe the Duckhorn will be better with age, but for the price I would upgrade to their Patzimaro or Monitor Ledge. Those are accented with better blending, structure, and much better flavor profiles.
