Open Beta

posted by philip in Website Updates, Snooth

Last night we slipped quietly into Open Beta. We finally caught up with everyone who’d signed up for an invite and from now on anyone can explore the site and create an account. A big thank you to the team, who worked so hard to get this done (not even on time, but 6 days early!), and to the loyal alpha and beta testers for helping us get to here.

At last count we had 1,411,678 ratings, and are adding several thousand more each day.

We’re still adding features, but as of now you can search our database of over 300,000 wines, rate and review wines, receive personalized recommendations and buy from a partner merchant.

To get an idea of how the site works, start by trying out some of the search examples:

  • California Chard
  • Opus One ‘00
  • Easy drinking Red
  • Good with Beef
  • Tobacco; Spice; Leather

These aren’t canned searches, trying mixing them up and adding your own terms, they are just to show you how flexible the search algorithms are.

Then rate a few wines you know you like (aim for at least 5), wait a few minutes for the recommendations to calculate, see if you like any, and if you do, click to visit one of our merchant partners to buy the wine.

There’s a lot more to come, stay tuned!
